The lines on our face and wrinkles that develop are one of the external signs of aging we try to prevent throughout our lifetime. Extrinsic aging refers to the things in the environment that effect our skin, from environmental factors like the harmful overexposure to UVA and UVB rays, carbon dioxide fumes from cigarette smoke, pollution, and injury. Intrinsic aging deals with our metabolic function and our internal health. For those that take care of their bodies daily internally and externally with the proper diet and exercise, these steps of aging are slow to take effect. If a healthy diet, exercise and lowered stress levels are not maintained then, we tend to age faster.

Removing these early signs of aging is possible through the use of dermal fillers or other anti-aging and anti-wrinkle injections, but it’s important to know which one is the best choice for your particular skin concerns. What is Juvederm®?

Juvederm is an anti-aging injection that is made of a gel substance similar to a molecule naturally produced by the body called hyaluronic acid (HA). Juvederm addresses fine lines and wrinkles in specified areas of the face and is reversible, which is best for those who haven’t experienced injection treatments previously. This dermal filler targets the following concerns:

• Lower eyelid volume
• Marionette lines
• Laugh lines
• Chin lines
• Jowls
• Crow’s feet
• Loss of volume or shape in the cheeks

Juvederm can focus on and correct fine lines while providing contouring to the face and neck, but is not often a dramatic solution for severe aging. There are three different types of Juvederm strengths available to choose from that will work best for various areas in the face, neck, and hands. Depending on your experience with these dermal fillers, we recommend beginning with the lowest strength filler.

Different types of Juvederm

To help the skin begin rejuvenation, there a few issues that we can address with this hyaluronic acid filler, Juvederm. Hydration and feel of the skin are the first things to target and are the primary function of hyaluronic acid in the body, which is to bind water molecules to these cells. When the skin is lacking in hydration, it can lose volume and softness as well as it’s continued ability to maintain all the natural metabolic healing processes within the tissues as water provides movement of nutrients throughout cells.

The three types of Juvederm are Juvederm® Ultra XC, Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC and Juvederm Voluma® XC. Juvederm® Ultra XC is the softest and lasts for a shorter amount of time than the other solutions.

Juvederm® Ultra XC is used to plump lips for lip augmentation which we do offer here at Incredible Veins, Skin & Body to help our clients with thinning lips. The strongest of the three and most dramatic is Juvederm Voluma® because it is known to lift and contour the skin, unlike the others that simply focus on smoothing out wrinkles and adding volume. Voluma lifts and contours the cheeks mostly, but can be used in other areas of the body. This particular form of Juvederm Voluma® lasts up to two full years and is the only dermal filler in its class proven to do so.
