Vein ligation and stripping is used to remove varicose veins when other procedures are not recommended. This minor surgical procedure involves either removing diseased veins from the leg entirely (stripping), or simply tying them off so that blood no longer can pool inside the vein (ligation). These procedures are usually performed by Dr. Ebrahimi at our Incredible Veins Center under a local anesthetic, and take around two or three hours to complete. Patients experience little or no discomfort during the procedure and recovery afterward is minimal. Most patients return to work or normal activities within a few days after treatment.
About Vein Ligation And Stripping
During the vein ligation and stripping procedure, Dr. Ebrahimi makes very small incisions in the leg below the diseased vein. A tiny tool is inserted through the incision that grips the vein so it can be carefully removed or tied off. Blood flow is rerouted in the area through the healthy veins that are left. For patients who are not good candidates for other vein removal procedures, ligation and stripping can be an effective way to say goodbye to unsightly bulging, twisting veins for good.
